Although there are relatively few hostels in Malta, some can be found in the main towns of the island. Whether you want to visit Malta as a backpacker or are looking for a few nights’ accommodation while you look for something more permanent, hostels allow those with smaller budgets to live and socialise with a lot of people.
Hostels in Saint Julian’s and surroundings areas
You will find most of the hostels in Malta in this area. This is mainly due to the proximity of Paceville, with its lively nightlife.
Inhawi Hostel
Located a 2-minute walk from Balluta Bay, Inhawi Hostel is one of Malta’s most famous youth hostels. It is modern and in a great location.

Rooms are quite modern and very clean. They are dormitories with 4,6,8,10 or 12 beds, some with a balcony or terrace. They are all equipped with air conditioning.

The Marco Polo
Marco Polo Hostel is located in the heart of Paceville, close to Portomaso and its luxurious marina.

Dormitories are made up of 6 or 12 beds, mixed or female only.

The Boho Hostel
The Boho Hostel is recommended more for people who want to meet fellow backpackers, rather than just going to Paceville. It is one of the few backpacker hostels in Malta that is not frequented by party-goers. This is why it is located in a more remote villa, 20 minutes walk from Paceville. The atmosphere at the hostel is more “bohemian”.

Hostel Malti is located a few minutes’ walk from Balluta Bay. It is more in the classic, traditional Maltese style; so don’t expect a modern building.

Hostels in Valletta
There are very few hostels in Valletta, and reviews are not very favourable. On the other hand, they afford accommodation in Malta’s capital at low cost, provided you are not too particular about comfort.
The Valletta Dormitory Hostel
The Valletta dormitory hostel is a former monastery, on 3 floors. Typically Maltese in architecture, it mixes modernity with a classic style. On the other hand, the comfort offered is pretty basic.

There are dormitories of 4 or 8 beds, with 16 beds in total. Two bathrooms are provided for the 3 floors.

Airport shuttle, free Wi-Fi, towels provided, lockers, laundry facilities. Adults only.

From €18 per night in low season and €39 per night in high season for a bed in a dormitory.

Hostels in Sliema
Staying in Sliema allows you to be close to the many shops, bars and restaurants in the area. You will also enjoy the promenade along the seafront, with panoramic views of Valletta and Manoel Island.
Two Pillows
The Two Pillows hostel is located a few minutes’ walk from the Sliema Ferry, where excursion boats and ferries to Valletta depart. It is a superior, modern property, in the style of a Boutique Hotel.

There are generally fewer hostels in Gozo, but it is still possible to find something suitable for you. They are particularly popular with backpackers exploring the island.
Santa Martha Hostel in Marsalforn
Santa Martha Hostel is located in Marsalforn, one of the main seaside resorts of Gozo. It is close to restaurants and bars, as well as the seafront.

These are rooms that can accommodate from 1 to 3 people. It is more like a Bed and Breakfast, but this property still fits into the hostel category, thanks to its very competitive rates.
