Price of a consultation with an ophthalmologist
A consultation for a routine visit will cost you on average between €50 and €100. Prices vary depending on the duration of the appointment and the prestige of the clinic.
Surgeries can be quite expensive. A laser operation, for example, can cost between €1,500 and €3,000 depending on the clinic.
In case of an emergency, you can go directly to Mater Dei Hospital where you will be taken care of free of charge upon presentation of the European Health Insurance Card (EACB).
For non-urgent appointments in Malta, treatment will be at your own expense.
If you only plan to stay a few months in Malta, we advise that you consider costs in your own country, as they could be cheaper.
Also note that there are many opticians’ offices in Malta such as Krys, Atol, etc. with ophthalmologists who practise on the premises. This could be a good option if you wish to combine a consultation with buying glasses on the same visit.
