There are two types of childcare in Malta: private and public.
- Public childcare services are available to all Maltese children and families, but priority is given on the basis of a needs assessment.
- Private: Most expatriates enrol their children in private day care, due to higher availability
Although childcare between 3 months and 3 years is cheap compared to the rest of Europe, annual prices may vary from city to city:

You can also use certified babysitters. Please note that there are many specialized centres in Malta. This solution will be better for busy parents, as nurseries in Malta close around 5pm.

Some thoughts to ask yourself when choosing your day care in Malta:
- Are the premises clean and tidy?
- What are the opening hours?
- Can you visit the centre at any time?
- Ask to see a weekly program (activities and routines: Nap time, mealtime, etc.)
- What are the fees? Are there any discounts if you register more than one child? What payment methods are accepted?
- Do you have to pay for public holidays and sick days?
- Do you have to pay for holiday periods (e.g., Christmas?)
